Email Registration: once you have your group together.

CUPLESS EVENT

As trail runners and nature lovers we're keen to do our part to protect our beautiful planet and reduce the environmental impact of our events, so we have removed disposable cups from our aid stations in an effort to minimise our waste production.

Here are some alternatives to keep you hydrated out there:

  • Reusable cup – available for purchase at registration for only $5 (cash only). These can be easily carried in your pocket, tucked into your shorts/tights or in a backpack.

  • Hydration pack with bladder

  • Handheld water bottle

EVENT TEES

Stock will be limited so be sure to nab yours soon.

You can purchase a tee while registering for the event online.

If you have already entered and would like to purchase one, you can do so through your confirmation email, which will take you back into the registration system to make other purchases.

Women’s tee - $45

Men’s tee - $45

MEDALS for ALL FINISHERS

Choose to either receive a finishers medal or have us donate to Sustainable Coastlines on your behalf instead.

Unfortunately surplus medals/ribbons displaying the event date can no longer be used, so become waste. Instead, there will be space on the back of the medal where you can have the event date & your finishing time engraved (if you wish).

We thank you for your understanding and encourage you to think what else can be done to help preserve our world.

cOASTAL cLEANUP

Head out to your local beach/stream/coastline for a jog and pick up as much rubbish as you can, then post a picture here so we can give you the kudos you deserve. They call it Plogging (a combination of jogging with picking up litter).

This is a great opportunity to get out there and have a first-hand look at the Coastal Challenge course, and help protect our oceans at the same time. #winning

We have plenty of awesome spot prizes up for grabs for those who take part!

GETTING THERE & PARKING

All events finish at Windsor Reserve, Devonport.

Take the Ferry:

Certainly the coolest way to travel is to catch the ferry from downtown Auckland. The Saturday morning service begins at 6.15am and runs to and from downtown Auckland every 30 minutes at the time of writing. Please check the ferry timetable with Fullers or on the Auckland Transport Journey Planner website before your journey.

Take the Bus:

Devonport village is a major transport hub and several bus lines run directly to the ferry terminal, from where it’s a hop, skip and jump to the event venue. Check on the Auckland Transport Journey Planner web site for the best options from your location.

Driving and Parking info:

If you will be parking in Devonport, plan to arrive in plenty of time and expect a 10-15 minute walk from your parking space to the finish line. Try for un-metered street parking on the major roads; King Edward Parade (east of Buchanan St), Queens Parade (west of Anne St) or up on Calliope Rd. You may also find street parking in the residential streets outside of the centre. Please be sure to check parking signs and comply with the parking rules posted.

There is limited parking at each of the five event start points; please remember you will need to get dropped off or have a ride back to your vehicle after your race as there are no buses back to the start points after the event.

EVENT BASE

The event base, and finish point for all event options will be located in Windsor Reserve, King Edward Parade in Devonport.

This is the best location for spectators to position themselves to see friends and family finishing their event.

BRIEFINGS & START TIMES

This event is largely governed by the sea state on the day. While we intend to start all events at the times below in order to allow for some decent water interaction, quite often we need to delay the start times of the three longer distances to make sure the tide is far enough out for it to be safe to travel down the coastline. This will only happen if there is a swell or wind chop present/forecast and we will let you know via email/social media at least two or three days out if this is the case.

Bay Scrambler (11km) start point Milford Beach 1.50pm 2.00pm
Beach Hopper (6km) start point Takapuna Beach 2.50pm 3.00pm

High Tide: 10.16am (3.0m)

Low Tide: 4.27pm (0.7m)

Please note: Depending on what time you get to the 2 swim sections, the swims could be anything from 100m to 300m on an outgoing tide, so it is very important that only confident swimmers do the 33km event.

TEAMS INFO

The relay team is a great option for this event, with 5 x legs of varying difficulty to choose from - there is something for everyone!

If you enter the Full Monty Team Relay, you have the choice of which of the designated transition points each team member changes at; Long Bay, Browns Bay, Milford or Takapuna, not at random points along the course. Your will be given an ankle transponder as a baton. We will also provide each member of your team with a race number so that all you need to do is switch the ankle transponder between team members – just don’t forget to transfer it from one team member to the next!

A friendly reminder that teams must also have your own transport organised along the coast. We recommend all team members go to Arkles bay together on the event morning to register - this is where you will collect your race bibs/transponder. That vehicle then navigates the coast with the team swapping in one runner and picking up the last one (you should easily have enough time to drive between each of the relay change points doing this, as long as each runner is ready to go in the car).

PRIZEGIVING & POST-EVENT ACTIVITIES

Prize giving will commence at 4.30pm at the finish line. Trophies will be awarded to the over-all race winners, male and female, for each of the race options. Spot prizes will also be awarded at random but you must be present to win!

food & drink

Every finisher will receive a free sausage (in keeping with the events roots) and cold Speights (or non alcoholic beverage). There will also be ice creams available for purchase and you can purchase burgers plus additional sausages (donation to Hopsice) if just the one didn’t touch the sides.

There will be ample water-based support on the water (3x Surf Life Saving rescue boats), with a particular focus around the two river crossings. If you’re in trouble on either of these two sections, please raise your hand and our water safety crew will be very happy to provide assistance in getting you across. You will not be disqualified if you fit into this category, but please don’t use the water safety crew to get a free ride, and save you some energy – they’ll keep you in the boat for longer!

Hazards

The following (but not limited to) hazards exist on the event courses

  • Vehicles – You will cross a road at the Takapuna boat ramp, and the course does veer off the coastline in Devonport where the roads are open to traffic. Please take care and look both ways before crossing – normal road rules apply.

  • Inclement weather – It has the potential to be either very hot or very cold (especially when you are wet) on the North Shore coastline, so make sure you dress to the conditions and keep your fluids up.

  • Natural hazards: Slippery Rocks - these are generally green. Fallen trees – please go around fallen trees where possible, and never go under a branch if it’s above water. Steep Drops – You are not to be higher than 2 meters above the water at any time. Water Interaction – please stay within your limits. Unstable Cliffs – Please hug the water line rather than running/walking under the cliffs. It’s not only safer, but usually the faster line anyway!

Identified hazards on course have been marked, or made out of bounds, however; hazards can exist at any place and any time.  As such, not all hazards can be marked.  Please take caution and participate within your individual ability.
